Dryer Repair Dollard-des-Ormeaux

Denim still clammy after sixty minutes, a stationary drum, or a shriek the instant you press start. A technician visits your home in DDO, checks heat, drive and venting, and has single-cycle drying back.

Common Dryer Problems

Pick what's happening in the laundry room. Every entry explains the usual cause, what you can do meanwhile, and the parts we test first.

Problem 01

Drum Turns But Stays Cold

The drum spins on schedule and everything inside stays cool and damp. Electric models usually point to an open heating coil or a blown safety fuse, while gas models tend to have an igniter too weak to trigger the valve. We measure each piece, so only the failed one goes on the invoice.

While You Wait

At the electrical panel, check whether one side of the two-pole dryer breaker has dropped; a dryer can tumble on one leg without ever heating. Gas owners should confirm the yellow-handled valve is in line with the pipe.

Problem 02

One Load Needs Two Cycles

A load that once took fifty minutes now needs a second round. Nine in ten of these come down to air that can't escape: lint compacted in the duct, a foil hose folded behind the cabinet, or a stuck flap at the wall. We clear the route from drum to hood and verify the airflow outside.

While You Wait

Scrub the screen with dish soap to strip the waxy film from dryer sheets, then stand by the outside hood during a cycle to confirm strong exhaust.

Problem 03

Motor Hums, Drum Doesn't Move

The motor hums away while the drum refuses to budge. A belt that snapped, an idler pulley that seized, or rollers worn flat stop the drum cold, and a look inside the cabinet shows which in minutes.

While You Wait

Spin the drum by hand: if it turns with no drag at all, the belt is almost certainly broken, so don't keep pressing start.

Problem 04

Squeal Or Thump While Running

A shriek on start-up or a steady thud with each revolution. Pulleys that have run dry and rollers with flat spots are the usual pair, and replacing both together keeps the next noise from showing up a month later.

While You Wait

Listen for whether the sound starts cold or only after a few minutes; a squeal from the first second usually means the pulley.

Problem 05

Shuts Off Before The Load Is Dry

Halfway through, it simply stops. A choked vent lets heat build until a safety thermostat trips, and dryer-sheet residue on the sensor bars can convince the control that the clothes are already dry.

While You Wait

Clean the vent, then wipe the two metal strips inside the drum opening with rubbing alcohol before the next load.

Problem 06

Burning Or Scorched Odour

A warm, dusty smell during a cycle is worth acting on. Fluff collects around the heater box and inside the cabinet where the lint screen can't catch it, and a full clean-out removes that fire risk.

While You Wait

Unplug the machine and leave it off until we've opened it up; hidden lint is the part you can't see from the front.

Dryer Error Codes

Each one is tagged with the brand that uses it, since the same letters can mean different things on different makes.

F01

Whirlpool

The main control has reported an internal fault.

F22

Whirlpool

Open circuit at the exhaust thermistor; outlet heat can't be measured.

d80

LG

The exhaust path is about 80% restricted; clean the duct before running again.

dE

Samsung

The door is open or the door switch isn't registering closed.

bE

Samsung

A control button is stuck or reading as pressed.

9C1

Samsung

Power supply problem, often low or uneven voltage at the outlet.

Each manufacturer uses its own codes, and meanings can shift between model years. If a code returns after a five-minute unplug, book a technician and we'll diagnose it properly.

Dryer Repair Reviews

Feedback from DDO households after their dryer repair.

Two runs per load and a muggy laundry room. The foil duct had been crushed flat behind the cabinet. Replaced and rerouted, one run is enough now.

Esmond R.Westpark

Drum turned, no heat. Safety fuse blown from a lint-choked duct. Both handled in one visit.

Ines F.Sunnybrooke

Motor hummed, drum didn't. Belt had snapped, and the rollers were flat too, so he did both.

Garance L.St-Jean

A shriek every time it started. Pulley needed ordering, hence two trips. Silent since.

Valerian K.Pierrefonds

Gas dryer quit heating. Igniter and valve coils were both on the truck. Finished within the hour.

Noemie C.Kirkland

Caught a hot dusty smell and switched it off. He found fluff piled around the heater box and cleaned out the whole cabinet.

Dryer Checks Before You Call

Airflow sits behind most dryer complaints, and you can inspect it yourself in minutes.

1

Is the lint screen clean?

Empty it before every load. A furred-up screen alone can double drying time.

2

Is the outside flap opening?

With the dryer running, step outside and see whether the hood flap lifts.

3

Is the hose crushed?

Pull the cabinet out and look for a duct folded or squashed against the wall.

4

Are both breakers on?

An electric model only heats when both poles of its breaker are live.

5

Is the drum overfilled?

Packed drums can't tumble air through the load and fool the moisture sensor.

6

Is the gas valve open?

On gas units, the shut-off behind the dryer should be fully open.

Still slow or cold? Book a visit and we'll take it from there.
