Fridge Repair Dollard-des-Ormeaux

Melted ice cream, a slow drip under the crisper drawers, or a hum that's grown into a groan. Whichever of those sounds familiar, a technician comes to your kitchen in DDO, finds the faulty part, and gets it cooling again without a sales pitch for a new one.

Common Fridge Problems

Choose the symptom that matches your kitchen. Each one explains the usual cause, what you can do meanwhile, and the parts we test first.

Problem 01

Freezer Cold, Fridge Side Warm

Ice cream is frozen solid, yet the milk shelf feels lukewarm. Cold air is made in the freezer and pushed into the fresh-food side through a duct; when frost seals that duct or the evaporator fan stops spinning, the bottom compartment slowly warms while the top stays frozen. We melt the blockage, find out why the defrost failed, and confirm air is flowing before we leave.

While You Wait

Move dairy and meat into a cooler or the freezer door and keep the doors closed. Listen for a fan when you open the freezer; tell us whether you hear one when you call.

Problem 02

Ice Coating The Back Panel

Frost spreads across the rear wall of the freezer until the vents vanish. Modern units melt that frost several times a day; when a heater, a defrost thermostat, or the control timing fails, it simply keeps building. We meter each part, so the bill only covers what actually failed.

While You Wait

Avoid chipping the ice with anything sharp; one slip can puncture the cooling tubing. Defrosting with the door open helps for a few days but the frost returns.

Problem 03

Ice Maker Stopped Producing

The bin holds a few stuck-together cubes and nothing new. Weak water supply to the solenoid, an iced-up feed line, or a maker module that stalls mid-harvest explain most of them. Measuring supply first rules out the cheapest answer in minutes.

While You Wait

Confirm the maker's switch is in the on position and no frozen lump is jamming the bin. If water still pours from the dispenser, the supply valve is probably fine.

Problem 04

Water Pooling Under The Crisper

Water collects beneath the crisper drawers or seeps out across the kitchen floor. The defrost water drains through a tube to a pan underneath; if ice or food debris plugs it, the water backs up inside and finds another way out. Flushing the tube and protecting it from refreezing usually ends it.

While You Wait

Dry the area and lay a towel at the front edge to see how quickly water returns. Mention whether it's clear or discoloured when you call.

Problem 05

Buzzing, Rattling Or Clicking

A new rattle at the back, a buzz from below, or a click every few minutes. Dry fan bearings, a blade scraping a lump of ice, or a pan rattling against the frame cause most of these; a failing compressor is the rare exception.

While You Wait

Note when the sound happens: after closing the door, during defrost, or constantly. A short phone recording helps us bring the right part.

Problem 06

Compressor Never Switches Off

It hums through the night without pausing, and the cabinet walls are warm to the touch. Coils caked in dust, a gasket that has lost its grip, or a sticking start relay keep it labouring without a break. Cleaning and a gasket check fix many of these calls.

While You Wait

Put your palm by the kickplate vent while it runs; if barely any warm air comes out, suspect the condenser fan. Avoid opening the doors more than needed.

Fridge Error Codes

Each one is tagged with the brand that uses it, since the same letters can mean different things on different makes.

SY EF

Frigidaire

The evaporator fan isn't running as expected, often frozen in ice after a defrost fault.

SY CF

Frigidaire

The condenser fan under the fridge has a problem, so heat isn't being removed properly.

SY CE

Frigidaire

Communication error between the main control and the user interface board.

5E

Samsung

The freezer defrost sensor is giving an impossible reading, so defrost may not run correctly.

Er IF

LG

The ice compartment fan isn't working, a common cause of slow or no ice production.

Er rS

LG

The refrigerator temperature sensor has failed or its connection has come loose.

Each manufacturer uses its own codes, and meanings can shift between model years. If a code returns after a five-minute unplug, book a technician and we'll diagnose it properly.

Fridge Repair Reviews

Feedback from DDO households after their fridge repair.

Our French door fridge was lukewarm below while the freezer was rock hard. The technician uncovered an ice-choked duct and a fan that had seized. Two hours after I called, the milk was cold again.

Clementine B.Westpark

A white crust kept forming across the freezer wall. The defrost heater was burned out. He showed me the broken coil before replacing it.

Rupert H.Sunnybrooke

Ice maker gave up on us. The replacement valve had to be ordered, meaning a return visit, but he phoned ahead both times.

Philippine D.St-Jean

Every couple of days there was water under the vegetable drawers. Clogged drain tube. Flushed, cleared, and a clip added so it won't refreeze.

Thibault G.Pierrefonds

A loud buzzing started every few minutes. Worn condenser fan motor. Quiet ever since.

Marisa O.Kirkland

The motor never seemed to rest and the side panels were hot. The coils underneath were felted with cat fur. Cleaned and it cycles properly now.

Fridge Checks Before You Call

Plenty of fridge calls are solved with a two-minute check. Go through these first.

1

Is the dial set correctly?

The fresh-food side should sit around 3–4 °C and the freezer near minus 18. A bumped dial is more common than you'd think.

2

Are the vents clear?

Tall bottles pressed against the rear wall stop the chilled air arriving from the freezer.

3

Does the door seal grip?

Shut the door on a strip of paper. If it slides out freely, that part of the gasket needs attention.

4

Are the coils dusty?

Unclip the bottom grille and check the coils for a grey blanket of dust.

5

Is there room behind it?

Leave a hand's width behind the cabinet so it can shed the heat it makes.

6

Have you tried a reset?

Unplug for five minutes and plug back in. Many control glitches clear this way.
