Stove Repair Dollard-des-Ormeaux

Endless clicking but no fire, a coil stuck on maximum, or a smooth-top that ignores the controls. A technician comes to your kitchen in DDO, finds the faulty switch, igniter or element, and gets every burner cooking again.

Common Stove Problems

Choose the symptom that matches your kitchen. Each one explains the usual cause, what you can do meanwhile, and the parts we test first.

Problem 01

Igniter Clicks, No Flame

The spark ticks, a faint gas smell drifts up, and nothing catches. Boiled-over pasta water on the igniter tip, ports blocked with residue, or a cap sitting slightly off-centre are the regular causes, and cleaning plus reseating sorts most of these immediately.

While You Wait

Scrub the ceramic tip using a clean, dry toothbrush and settle the cap squarely. Still nothing? Shut the knob, wait a minute, then retry.

Problem 02

Burner Only Runs At Maximum

Whatever number you pick on the knob, the coil glows cherry red. Its infinite switch has welded shut and sends maximum current regardless of the knob. Replacing it is quick, and the connections behind the panel get inspected at the same time.

While You Wait

If the knob won't turn it off, kill it at the panel and leave that burner alone until the repair.

Problem 03

One Burner Won't Heat

Three burners heat and one stays dark. Either the element has broken inside or the socket it plugs into is scorched; trading coils between positions tells us which within seconds.

While You Wait

Swap the dark coil into a working socket; look at the old socket for blackened contacts while it's out.

Problem 04

Flame Is Yellow Or Uneven

The flame burns soft and yellow instead of a tight blue ring, and pots come off sooty. Partly blocked ports or an air shutter knocked out of adjustment are the usual reasons.

While You Wait

Use a straightened paper clip on the ports, never a toothpick, and wipe out any liquid pooled under the burner.

Problem 05

Clicking Won't Stop

The burner is alight yet the ticking carries on. Liquid from a spill bridging the spark switch is the classic cause; once in a while the switch has simply worn out.

While You Wait

Leave the cooktop to dry overnight after a spill; if it still ticks in the morning, the switch is done.

Problem 06

Glass Top Zone Not Working

One zone on the glass top stays cold or the panel shows a code. Radiant tops can lose an element or a limiter under the glass, while induction models may have a board or pan-sensing fault.

While You Wait

Don't cook on cracked glass, and jot down which zone fails and what appears on the display.

Each one is tagged with the brand that uses it, since the same letters can mean different things on different makes.

F1E1

Whirlpool

The electronic control board has reported a failure.

F

Frigidaire

On induction: no compatible pan detected, or the pan was lifted off.

HOT

Glass Tops

Informational only: residual heat remains on that zone.

Lock On

Various

The cooktop controls are locked; hold the lock key to release.

F9

GE

The range's self-clean door lock didn't move as expected.

F10

Frigidaire

Runaway temperature detected; the range has cut power to the oven.

Each manufacturer uses its own codes, and meanings can shift between model years. If a code returns after a five-minute unplug, book a technician and we'll diagnose it properly.

Stove Checks Before You Call

Some stove problems can be sorted in a few minutes.

1

Are the ports clean?

Remove the caps and open up each little port using a pin or fine brush.

2

Are the caps seated?

A crooked cap blocks the spark, so make sure each one rests level.

3

Is the igniter dry?

Following a boil-over, wait a few hours for everything to dry out.

4

Are both breakers on?

Electric ranges use a two-pole breaker; a tripped half leaves some zones cold.

5

Does a swapped coil heat?

Plug the cold coil into a working socket; heating there means the original socket is the problem.

6

Is the panel locked?

When the panel won't respond, press and hold the lock button for three seconds.

Still not cooking? Book a visit and we'll take it from there.
