A roast raw in the middle, cookies burnt on one tray and pale on another, or a display flashing a code you don't recognise. Our technician comes to your kitchen in DDO, tests the elements, igniter and sensor, and gets your oven baking evenly again.

Common Oven Problems

Choose the symptom that matches your kitchen. Each one explains the usual cause, what you can do meanwhile, and the parts we test first.

Problem 01

Oven Doesn't Warm Up

The interior light works, yet the cavity never warms. Electric ovens commonly have a lower element that has blistered and opened; gas ovens tend to have a glow bar that no longer draws enough current for the valve. Both are confirmed with a meter before a part is ordered.

While You Wait

See whether the clock and light still work; a blank display points to the breaker first. Gas owners can listen for the igniter tick.

Problem 02

Burnt Edges, Pale Centre

The left side of the sheet chars while the right stays blond. A sluggish rear fan, a cold stretch on the lower element, or a door leaking along one edge all produce this pattern.

While You Wait

Turn trays halfway through and stick to the middle rack. Foil on the oven floor reflects heat badly, so leave it off.

Problem 03

Preheat Takes Much Longer

Preheat that once took ten minutes now drags past thirty. Plenty of ovens use the top and bottom elements together during preheat, so a dead upper element or a weakening igniter is usually to blame.

While You Wait

Clock how many minutes it needs to hit 350 °F; that number helps us judge the igniter or element.

Problem 04

Food Cooks Too Fast Or Too Slow

Recipes that always worked are suddenly off. The thin probe on the rear wall loses accuracy over time, so the control targets the wrong temperature. We check its ohm reading and adjust calibration when the model supports it.

While You Wait

A thermometer on the centre rack confirms how far off it is. Check the settings menu too; many models allow a small offset.

Problem 05

Door Not Sealing Properly

Warm air spills from the door seam and the room gets stuffy quickly. Tired hinges let the door sit slightly ajar, and a squashed seal can't bridge the opening.

While You Wait

Lower the door halfway and let go: it should hold or spring back, not drop. Note whether it closes completely flush.

Problem 06

Display Showing An Error

Letters flash on the display and the oven won't heat. Jammed keys, an open probe circuit, or a relay fused shut explain most of them, and a board is only quoted once that's confirmed.

While You Wait

Write the code down along with what the oven was doing at that moment; a power reset can hide it for a while.

A shorted key on the touch panel is locking out other inputs.

F3E0

Flashing during self-clean: the lock hasn't engaged or released.

Each manufacturer uses its own codes, and meanings can shift between model years. If a code returns after a five-minute unplug, book a technician and we'll diagnose it properly.

Oven Checks Before You Call

A few quick checks can save you a service call.

1

Does a thermometer agree?

Run it at 350 °F with a thermometer on the middle rack for twenty minutes; note any gap over 25 degrees.

2

Is the breaker on?

Ranges run on a two-pole breaker; one tripped side leaves the lights on and the elements cold.

3

Is the door sealing?

While it's hot, pass your palm along the door edge to find leaks.

4

Are the elements intact?

Look along the lower element for bubbles, cracks or a visible break.

5

Is a lock active?

A lock symbol or an unfinished self-clean can block normal baking.

6

Is the gas supply open?

On gas models, the valve behind the range should be turned fully on.

Still baking unevenly? Book a visit and we'll take it from there.
